TRINITY CENTER, Calif. — Residents preparing for the 2026–27 winter should check Trinity County’s Trinity Center-specific snow-removal priority map before assuming a rural road will be cleared immediately after a storm. The Department of Transportation categorizes county-maintained roads by priority and acknowledges that crews cannot service every road at the same time.
Four road priorities
The county says Priority 1 generally includes major arterials with the highest snow-removal importance. Priority 2 includes other important routes, often school-bus routes and access serving emergency services. Priority 3 roads may be cleared if time and staffing permit, but county policy says they normally are not plowed on weekends and holidays. Priority 4 roads are classified as “Not Winter Maintained” and may not be plowed at all.
A map’s color or priority designation helps explain planning; it does not confirm that a particular road is open today. High-priority roads can still become impassable during severe weather, and private roads or driveways may have different responsibilities. The county’s list of maintained roads and snow-removal maps help residents identify the correct category for their address.
How to report a problem
Trinity County maintains about 692 miles of roads and 101 bridges, according to its transportation page. Drivers can submit roadway problems through the county’s online report form or contact the Transportation Department at 530-623-1365. For state highways, check Caltrans QuickMap and current traffic notices instead of expecting the county road crew to handle state-highway plowing.
Households with long access roads, older residents or medical needs should plan supplies and transportation alternatives in advance of forecast storms.
